Gardena's Annual Food, Wine, and Brew Festival at the City Hall Complex in Gardena, CA
This year we were honored to be chosen as a participant in the City of Gardena’s Annual Food, Wine, and Brew Festival.
Us along with 70+ Food, wine and brew vendors gave out free samples and helped our community to enjoy time out with family, neighbors, and friends.
We made many people very happy as they sipped on our freshly brewed coffee samples and learned more about our backstory.

This year our focus has been to gain exposure for Nerd Java by finding and partnering with amazing companies who support small business.
We partnered with Pop Up and Shop Unpokito De Todo Markets🦋 based out of the South Bay Galleria.
We joined them at a variety of events at the Galleria and around the LA area.

On Sunday, January 28th, 2024, Nerd Java participated in a large in-person event with over 150 other vendors. We brought hundreds of sample bags of coffee, full bags, and free brewed coffee samples. We applied for a spot at the market just a few days before the event and were surprised to be accepted.
Upon arrival, we quickly unloaded our products to make space for other vendors. Our booth was located in a prime spot in front of the North side of the BMO stadium sign, facing the main lawn of Exposition Park.
Despite having free coffee signs and inviting people to try our samples, we noticed that many people kept walking by. However, once someone’s interest was piqued, we had a mass of people 2 or 3 rows deep at our booth.
We found that we have a coffee for most people’s taste buds. Some customers loved all five of our coffees, while others preferred specific flavors. We received a lot of positive feedback, which was very encouraging as a new small business. We were grateful to learn that our coffee fits most palettes and that it was being well received.
We couldn’t impress those who really love the burnt taste of Starbucks coffee, but we’re okay with that. Our coffee will never taste that way, and we’re proud of our smooth and intense flavors.
At this event, we brought free brewed samples of our extreme versions of Winter Fire and Fireball, which were well received. Even those who thought they would be too intense ended up enjoying them. We sold out of sample bags for Fireball Regular, Winter Fire Regular, Blend, and Colombian. At the end of the day, only a little Guatemala, Fireball Extreme, and Winter Fire Extreme were left.
Overall, we intrigued a lot of minds with our smooth coffee and intense flavors, and we feel like we’re off to a great start.
MLK Day January 13, 2024
City of Gardena Martin Luther King Junior Parade and Battle of the Bands
Our first Gardena City event was the MLK Day Parade and Battle of the Bands on January 13th, and we made a splash!
The setup was a little slow-moving because we had all our new supplies for organizing product which we had to haul (minus tent, table, and chair) up a tiny and mighty, super steep hill and across a long, damp baseball field. Though, it was not a far haul from the parking lot to the booth location, the stickiness of the wet grass made it difficult to wheel things across.
Several vendors had accidents or near accidents as they crossed the field as they were working solo, so we jumped in to help as much as possible.
Now don’t think we got away without any scratches… We had our product wagon tip over on the hill that led up into the grass… twice! Once on the setup end and the other on the teardown. :s That was a doozie, but luckily, all was well in the long run. Nothing was damaged and the crates holding our product was easily cleaned.
@nerdjavacoffee Nerdy sample pack! 5 for $25 of $6 each. Extreme flavors are $2 more. Try them all! See what you love. #coffeeloversunite #specialtycoffee #smallbusiness ♬ original sound - Nerd Java
The day began super chilly and stayed relatively chilly (from LA standards), but we warmed up from lots of moving around including: meeting vendors, setting up the booth, and then finally doing what we were there to do, give out FREE samples of our coffee. Sales were pretty good, and interest in what we are doing was extremely high! Low Acid Coffee that is easy to digest is something everyone seemed interested to learn more about.
The event coordinator, other vendors, a variety of small business people, and patrons were all excited with our energy and gave us new offers for future events and potential partnerships!
All in all this was a fantastic start to the year and another exciting launch of Nerd Java.
Winter Wonderland December 7, 2023
Harbor Gateway Winter Wonderland Tree Lighting
On December 7th, Nerd Java attended our first in-person event courtesy of Harbor Gateway District 15's Winter Wonderland at The Enclave in the Gardena/ Torrance area courtesy of Council Member Tim McOsker.
This was an extremely last-minute event for us as we were asked if we could participate the night before with samples that we could pass out. So, we prepped with the idea that we would be walking around handing out mini-sample pacs of our coffee.
No sweat.
We had this.
When we were officially confirmed, just 3 hours before the event started, we found out we could sell too AND that we would have electricity!
Well that changed the plan…
It was a whirlwind of activity over those final three hours.
It was a whirlwind of activity as we filled the car with haphazardly collected sellable product, samples we created the night before, the coffee pot to makedrinkable samples, the full table set up, and finally a stop at Sam’s Club and Food 4 Less for final supplies. Even though it was extremely last minute, Charity only panicked at home. Once she got to the site she was cool as a cucumber and was all smiles.
Once Charity arrived, unloaded the car onto her two waggons, and started trekking it to the event space, an unexpected Angel named Paz appeared and offered to help drag the wagons.
Side Note: Once Charity settled in the booth she realized she wanted to give Paz a sample … Paz, if you ever read this, please reach out!
Upon arrival, we found out that we would be hidden at the back of the event, across from the hockey space, near the 2nd generator.
With this being the first-ever event, Charity was ok with this as it would give her time to warm up to the event… Right? Right? WRONG!
Charity was bombarded by interested people and couldn’t finish setting up for nearly 2 of the 4-hour event.
And that was before she got the coffee brewing!
Once the coffee started brewing people began following their noses to see what that “Amazing smell” was. Appearantly the smell made it through the stage, past the Christmas Tree and Santa, and past the other booth offering coffee.
Being at the back was no deterrent for those with good sniffers. People kept coming and coming and coming all night long.
Charity’s voice was horse by the night’s end, but it was well worth every moment as our coffee was so well received, liked, and welcomed on the chilly SoCal evening.
The last-minute stop at the Grocery store to pick up candy canes was a stroke of brilliance as Charity was able to lure kids in with the candy so the parents could learn about us, our coffee, and buy the coffee too!
Through this event we learned a lot about what we did well (handing out brewed coffee samples and having coffee sample packets on hand for those who it was too late at night to drink any coffee)…
…and what we need to do differently for the next event (have a better product organizational system for quick set up and tear down).
Just wait until January when we have our full set up!
